TWAIN is an interface used to import from imaging devices, such as scanners. For more information, see the TWAIN Working Group's website at www.twain.org. The Photoshop TWAIN plug-in connects with compatible devices that are installed on your computer.
Note:
The TWAIN Plug-in is not support in current versions of Photoshop.
Due to limitations with TWAIN in Photoshop, we strongly suggest the following alternatives for scanning your images:
The TWAIN SANE interface is not a standalone application. It is designed to be used from within other applications. It works with applications supporting the TWAIN specification, which includes most applications on Mac OS X that handles images. The free Xerox Global Print Driver manages Xerox and non-Xerox printers on your network with a single, easy-to-use interface. It dramatically simplifies enterprise printer management for IT managers, making it easy to add and update printers without changing drivers.
Use the stand-alone scanning software included with your scanner
Most scanners provide a stand-alone scanning application that can be used to scan and save images.
Using the stand-alone scanner software avoids issues associated with TWAIN. Using a dedicated application to scan allows you to retouch and edit images in Photoshop while you scan in the background â which can be more efficient.
If you use a stand-alone scanning application, save your scanned images as TIFF files, then open them into Photoshop.
Instructions: Scan and import images from a separate scanning application
Note:
Some scanner software lets you designate Photoshop as the external editor for an image after a scanning is completed. Consult the documentation that came with your scanner or contact your scanner manufacturer for more details.
macOS:
Use Appleâs ImageKit technology instead of TWAIN to scan directly into Photoshop. Support for ImageKit is built in to Photoshop without requiring a plug-in, and provides access to many scanners.
Instructions: Scan and import images using Appleâs ImageKit interface (macOS only)
Windows:

Use the WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) interface for your device, if itâs available, to scan directly into Photoshop.
Instructions: Scan and import images using a WIA interface (Windows only)
Note:
Contact your scanner manufacturer for more information on scanning using ImageKit or WIA.
Use a dedicated third-party scanning application
If your scanner manufacturer doesn't provide updated drivers that are compatible with current operating systems you may need to look at third-party scanning solutions. These third-party utilities are dedicated scanning solutions, and they are more appropriate for critical or high-volume scanning.

VueScan is compatible with the Canon 9900F on Windows x86 and Mac OS X.
If VueScan isn't working with the Firewire cable, try a USB cable, try a different Firewire port or a different Firewire cable.
This scanner has an infrared lamp for scanning film. VueScan's 'Filter | Infrared clean' option can be used to remove dust spots from film scans. This is similar to (and we think better than) the ICE and FARE algorithms.
It scans with visible light in the first pass and with infrared light in the second pass.

Infrared cleaning works well with all types of color negative and color slide film, including Kodachrome. However, silver-based black/white film doesn't work with infrared cleaning because the silver particles look the same in visible light and infrared light.
You need to install the Canon driver to use this scanner on Windows x86 and Mac OS X. Unfortunately, Canon doesn't have a driver for this scanner on Windows x64.
This scanner isn't supported on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and later, since Canon uses a PowerPC plugin for this scanner and Rosetta isn't available with 10.7 and later.
On Mac OS X prior to 10.7, you need to use the x32 version of VueScan 9.0.96 with Rosetta. To do this:
